The Broguhe Well

Broguhe's well is over 50 years old and is completely unusable. Thanks to the fund-raising efforts of Shana Dressler of Global Giving Circle, this village of about 400 is about to get a new well! Work on the new well will start March 18. Albert Kouassi Konan is PH&F's representative on this job. He is currently negotiating with the village for living quarters and food for the village, which is situated about 5 miles from the nearest road. The workers will have to stay in the village during the weeks that they dig the well. Please visit this page frequently to watch as we add more pictures of the well's progress!

Left, Evariste Plegnon and the chief stand next to the old well, which is now completely unoperational. For years, women and children have walked miles early every morning to get water. Right, the announcement of Shana Dressler's chocolate tasting fund-raiser which raised approximately $5,000, of which $2,000 went toward the well. PH&F contributed the remaining $1250 from its general fund..

This is the sort of well they're making. The workers will dig straight down about 200 feet and then line the hole with bricks and mortar. They will then use bucket, rope and pulley to bring the water up. Pumps don't last as they rust out. A hole, however, is forever.
