191. Shovels and pickaxes

BAFIA, CAMEROON, 2012. Shovels and pickaxes are extremely important for villages, as they are often located off the paved road and the local or federal government does nothing to improve infrastructure. This means villagers are obliged to fill in the holes, dips, and lakes that cut them off from the rest of the world.
