12. Gyaware, Ghana

Gyaware is located right next to Kakum National Park, about 30 minutes north of Cape Coast.  It has about 200 inhabitants.  The name means, "Too far to come marry you." and it is about 10 miles off the paved road.  Although the village has a school, most children cannot pursue an education past the primary because it simply takes took long to travel the dirt road.  There are of course no cars and there is only one bicycle, so children grow up, have children, and die in the village.

Small tools (3 years * $400) = $1,200
