ABIDJAN, COTE D'IVOIRE, 2006. Alloko or alloco or aloco is an Ivoirian dish made by frying ripe plantains in palm oil. The plantains are naturally sweet and the palm oil adds an attractive red color. A close relative to this dish is the Ghanaian food, Kelewele, which is the same thing but covered in a spice mixture before frying.
