Rice Hulling Machine in Depa

January 16th, 2016

Project Hope and Fairness built a structure and installed a rice hulling machine in Depa in 2013.  Much of the money came from a grant graciously contributed by Ms. Celia Zaentz.  This machine greatly alleviates a lot of the hard labor women must endure daily in order to get a stew plus rice on the table.  The original motor was stolen by the contractor, so Tom had to drum up more money for the second motor.  Even then, some thieves arrived at 3 AM in June, 2013, and attempted to drag it across the street.  They were caught in the act and fled into the jungle, leaving the motor in the middle of the road.  Now the building is locked up when not in use.
