5. Dawayo-Chantier, Côte d'Ivoire
We visited this town in 2007 and 2008 and we donated the following:
A roof for the school ($4,000)
A scale (($500)
Small tools ($400)
Tom was able to raise the money for the roof in memory of Stan Thompson, who is pictured visiting the roofless school. The town's elders had commissioned a substantial structure but ran out of money to purchase a roof. The mud bricks would have dissolved back into the earth if we had not donated the roof. Stan died one month after we got back and people of Morro Bay, where Stan lived, donated the money in his memory.
